"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (2017)

Luc Besson's science fiction romance will take you soaring on a galactic adventure!

Major Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and partner Sargeant Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are sent on a mission by their commander to recover certain alien technologies. Laureline is persistently refusing Valerian's romantic gestures and marriage proposals throughout the film. Little do they know that their quest will lead them to discover the remnants of a long-forgotten primitive civilization wiped out by inter-galatic war.

The film includes surprise appearances with Rihanna and Ethan Hawke playing fun, quirky roles as an exotic dancer and pimp of the infamous Pleasure Alley. I also loved seeing Herbie Hancock in a supporting role! That was a real treat.

This is a sci-fi drama with a lot of heart and a decent love story, but I found the dialogue to be weak and the storyline a bit predictable. If you like sci-fi, it's worth watching for the vast universes and incredibly stunning worlds Besson created.
