Peppermint Review

Jennifer Garner stars in Peppermint, a revenge action flick that failed to meet its potential, but has some great fight scenes and a decent premise. It's the story of a wife and mother who's lost everything to a gang in Los Angeles due to poor decisions her husband made in search of a better life for his family.

I loved that the story centered around a blue-collar family of simple means. When Riley North (Garner) wakes up from a coma after both husband and daughter are gunned down, she makes a decision that will irrevocably change the course of her life: she becomes a vigilante outlaw willing to risk all to avenge the death of her family. She becomes a local hero for the poor people of Skid Row and a protector to two little girls who appear throughout the film.

While the film has virtually no character development and fails on many levels as a poorly-developed piece of art, I felt that the film set a new precedent of a female vigilante-hero film in a similar vein to the films John Wick and Taken. Garner provided a moving performance and I felt, especially in the beginning, the weight of her decision. Go see Peppermint if you want to watch Jennifer Garner kick ass.
