Gerard Butler stars in the latest action-thriller Hunter Killer inspired by the book, Firing Point from 2012. Butler played Commander Joe Glass of the USS Arkansas, an armed submarine that's sent out on a search and rescue mission to find a lost American submarine. Meanwhile, the Russian President is held captive by the Russian military leader, Durov during a coup and the Americans, led by Navy Seals, go in to rescue the president and rendezvous with the American sub.
Overall, I felt that the story suffered from substance. The separate scenarios presented in the beginning that led the Seal Team and Captain of the US submarine to come together felt contrived. With one or two decent action sequences, this movie almost put me to sleep.
I love Gary Oldman, but his part in this movie was avoir mal--- painful to watch.
