Blumhouse Productions teamed up with Christopher Landon for the sequel to Happy Death Day with Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard in Happy Death Day 2U.
The film follows a college student (Rothe) as she wakes up over and over again on the same day in a never-ending cycle. Rothe is both witty and adept as an actor and offers both a hilarious and wickedly sadistic performance in a montage of scenes of her killing herself in a variety of ways: jumping off a building, jumping out of plane sans parachute, electrocuting herself in a bathtub, etc.
The story was entertaining, but without seeing the first film, one might feel lost. Like the premise, the story felt cyclical in a nauseating sort of way: as if one was stuck on a Merry-Go-Round with no clear exit or end in sight.
