"Avengers: End Game" is Decent at Best

:SPOILER ALERTS:

Marvel Universe has brought us a brand-new Avengers movie and this one is epic.

End Game is just that--the fourth and final film to the sci-fi film franchise.

The film stars a wide variety of Avengers including Captain America, Black Panther, Captain Marvel,  Iron Man and more.

The film takes place in a post-war apocalyptic universe where Thanos, using the all-powerful Infinity Stones, wiped out most of the population of earth and other planets with the snap of a finger.

The remaining living Avengers are left to pick up the pieces and carve out a sense of meaning from the overwhelming loss that they're faced with.

With this morose overtone, the film begins.

The remaining Avengers include Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Iron Man, War Machine, Ant-Man, Clint Barton and Nebula who all form a team with a mission to save the universe by time traveling to the past, collecting all the stones, and re-setting the universe back to a time before Thanos and evil destroyed everything.

The film had some very entertaining, touching and genuinely heart-felt moments. End Game also  provided a nice balance of character development with action sequences and had excellent pacing on an interesting overarching storyline that weaved many former Marvel films into itself.

I do however have some beef with the movie's treatment of female characters. I felt that the film's final act was seriously lacking support for the female characters and was borderline sexist.

Black Widow saves Clint Barton who was foolishly suicidal at a time when the world needed the Avengers. Black Widow died trying to save him. He let her die. In return, she was hardly remembered by anyone in the film.

When Iron Man died at the end of the film, many of the Avengers attended his funeral, but no one mentioned the death of Black Widow. There is a scene where all the Avengers come together to fight Thanos' army at the end and all the female Avengers gather together as a team. That was cute, but the lack of empathy or support for the sacrifice of Black Widow who was in all of the Avengers movies and one of the key characters was a bit unsettling.

Overall, the film provided a wonderful showcase of what a blockbuster film can do: entertain, inspire, and lead us to dream.

Finally, if there is ever any talk of making another Avengers film, I sincerely hope that Black Widow gets her own movie.
