"The Dead Don't Die" is a Hilarious Satire for our Times

The Dead Don't Die (2019) "Sturgill Simpson" Movie Clip

The latest zombie film is an entertaining satire on American life in 2019. From a hillbilly farmer with a "Make America White Again" cap to a group of zombies hypnotically saying phrases like, "wifi", "bluetooth" and "Siri", to the newscasters discussion of catastrophic environmental changes to the earth's rotation due to "polar fracking," there is no doubt that Jim Jarmusch wants to start a conversation about Trump politics and our obsession with technology.

"The Dead Don't Die" features an all-star cast including: Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton, ChloĆ« Sevigny, Tom Waits, Danny Glover, Iggy Pop among others.

This is a film that is subtly absurd in all the right ways and it's not afraid to make fun of itself and break the fourth wall on several occasions. The theme song from Sturgill Simpson, "The Dead Don't Die"  is on repeat throughout the entire movie and provides the audience with a self-aware feeling of impending doom. By the start of the movie, we know how it's going to end. Maybe Jim wants us to realize we're doomed, or are we?
