"Being Frank" Misses the Mark

Miranda Bailey had her directorial debut in 2019 with "Being Frank" starring the acclaimed comedian, Jim Gaffigan.

"Being Frank" tells the story of a duplicitous father who has managed to carry on a polygamist relationship with two separate families in different cities without the wives or children finding out.

My favorite character was Frank's son, Philip, played by Logan Miller. Philip's character provided a much-needed empathetic angle that was missing from the script.

While elements of the story were funny and the concept is dramatically intriguing, Bailey failed to provide a much needed depth to the story. In addition, the female characters felt one-dimensional while Gaffigan's comic genius was subdued under the weight of an overly melodramatic and melancholy tale.
