"The Dark Crystal" Re-imagined for a New Generation Marked by Climate Change

It's an excellent time for Jim Henson's classic dystopian masterpiece "The Dark Crystal" to re-emerge in the consciousness of a new generation. This dark fantasy film with puppets has more to say to us now frozen in an era of uncertainty, with a changing planet and dire reports on climate change soon to be released by the UN.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance | Trailer | Netflix

In the land of Thra, the Skeskis have cracked the crystal which is the life force, or the beating heart of the world, and are seeking power and immortality, murdering innocent creatures to fulfill their wicked fantasies for absolute control of Thra.

Because the world is out of balance, the darkness leeches into the soil like a plague in the form of purple veins, sending creatures going mad, destroying livestock and slowly killing the land.

The parables here are excellent. Jim Henson's puppets never fail to delight and to astonish. With masterful storytelling, this Netflix original will be sure to entertain and hopefully council and urge us to pay attention and think about the future of our own Mother Earth.
