QUEEN AND SLIM - A ROMEO AND JULIET STORY

Directed by Melina Matsoukas (in her directorial debut) and written by Lena Waithe, this Romeo and Juliet love story shows the house divided again--by racism.

With breakout star Jodie Turner-Smith and the phenomenal star Daniel Kaluuya (GET OUT) QUEEN AND SLIM is bound to stay forever in the hearts of cinema lovers everywhere throughout time.

The story revolves around Slim and Queen's Tinder date when they get pulled over by a cop for a minor traffic infraction. The situation quickly and ruthlessly escalates, sending the two off into an unknown journey fraught with danger, where the destination is uncertain at best and deadly at worst.

The chemistry between Turner-Smith and Kaluuya is tender and electrifying all at the same time. Queen is assertive, bold and has her guard up while Slim is quiet, reflective and simple. The contrast between the two personalities is complimentary and feels authentic.

The dialogue, acting, music, cinematography, and editing were top notch.

The film was cathartic in so many ways, resonating at a high emotional level, while leaving me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I enjoyed the clever use of voice over to demonstrate internal dialogue and conversation between characters.
