THE IRISHMAN IS SCORSESE AT HIS FINEST

Martin Scorsese has come through for all the cinephiles who miss his fine storytelling. With an all-star cast featuring: Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino, "The Irishman" is a weighty film that embodies a richness and depth only built by fine craftsmen who have labored together for years in the creation of high art.

What was missing from the film was any meaningful dialogue from the female characters, but perhaps this was intentional and reflective of the local culture, the time and place--the activities of the mafia and Frank Sheeran in 1950's Pennsylvania.

The story revolves around a truck driver who works his way up to become a high-level hitman in the mob. He becomes enmeshed in work with Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa and is in some ways connected to major historical events including the assassination of JFK, the Bay of Pigs fiasco and the Watergate scandal.

Overall, a fine film. Well done, Scorsese.
