"Marriage Story" Carried by Phenomenal Acting & Honest Writing

"Marriage Story" by writer/director Noah Baumbach is another brilliant look at the deterioration of a marriage.  The writer and director is known for his Academy Award-winning film "The Squid and the Whale" which is an autobiographical tale, based on his own personal experience growing up with divorced parents. In "Marriage Story" he presents a new drama that carries many similar themes to his film from 15 years prior. Some of the existential themes these films explore include: the chaotic nature of love and the confusion of divorce, physical nature vs. the intellect, and the dichotomy of relations between children and their parents.

In "Marriage Story" Adam Driver plays a stage director and Scarlett Johansson plays his actor wife as they struggle throughout a prolonged, excruciating divorce that stretches from New York City to Los Angeles once the couple splits.

The performances are raw and powerful. There are great supporting roles from Laura Dern and Julie Haggerty as well.
